A New Hub for Middle Eastern Logistics: The Value and Role of the Saudi GDC In February, CJ Logistics officially announced the grand opening of the Saudi GDC at the Integrated Logistics Special Zone of King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Built with an investment of approximately KRW 60 billion, this comprehensive logistics hub spans 20,000 square meters and has the capacity to process more than 20,000 parcels per day.

The Saudi GDC goes beyond serving a single country. It functions as a cross-border logistics hub supplying goods to multiple Middle Eastern countries, including the UAE, Kuwait, and Qatar. By integrating the entire e-commerce process, from product storage and inventory management to packaging, customs clearance, and delivery, the center minimizes supply chain risks through a seamless and comprehensive system. The Middle East is a rapidly growing digital commerce market. As transactions between global brands and local consumers expand, logistics infrastructure is emerging as a critical source of competitive advantage. The Saudi GDC is set to establish itself as a strategic hub capable of meeting the demands of this dynamic market environment.

Operational Efficiency Powered by Advanced Technology: The Integration of Digitalization and Automation 

The Saudi GDC was designed based on the successful model of the Incheon GDC in Korea. Advanced systems proven at the Incheon hub have been implemented locally, enabling differentiated automated operations. Multi-shuttle systems and AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles) move between racks measuring up to 10 meters in height and 60 meters in length, automatically storing and retrieving goods. The GTP (Goods-to-Person) system delivers products directly to operators, while the OTP (Order-to-Person) system moves order boxes to designated product zones, enhancing both operational efficiency and accuracy. These automation systems minimize worker movement while simultaneously improving processing speed and precision. As a result, the facility is equipped to respond reliably to high-volume and multi-SKU orders.
